Lois Marie (Smitty) Chitwood

Mrs. Lois Marie (Smitty) Chitwood, 68, of Murfreesboro died April 1, 2012 at her home. She was born April 24, 1943 in Rutherford County. Her parents were the late Earl Ruben Smitty and Cora Elizabeth (Swan) Smitty. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Johnny Baxter and Andrew Jackson Chitwood, brothers, Earl Ruben Smitty, Jr., William Smitty, Edmond Smitty, Ben Smitty, James Frank Smitty and an infant brother; sisters, Lena Myrtle Hazel, Clara Elizabeth Agent. She is survived by two sons, Johnny & Peggy Baxter of Bradyville, Ty & Shirley Baxter; two daughters, Elizabeth Humphrey and Dennie Sue Fletcher; brother, Thomas Allen & Kathy Smitty; sister, Doris Ann & William Jernigan all of Murfreesboro; three step-sons, Andy Chitwood, Vinson Chitwood and Darrell Chitwood; on step-daughter, Cindy Chitwood; eleven grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. She was a member of the House of Prayer and Praise. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Visitation will be held at Smith Funeral Home Tuesday, April 3, 2012 from 3-8 PM. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at 2 PM in the Smith Funeral Home chapel. Dwight Smitty will officiate. Interment will be in Cherry Cemetery. Smith Funeral Home (615)563-5337.
