Mr. Lawson D. Thomas, 69, of Woodbury died June 30, 2013 at his home. He was born in Cannon County on March 16, 1944. His parents were the late Jesse Thomas and Lissie (Mears) Thomas. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Doran "Bud" Thomas, Woodrow Thomas, Cecil Thomas, Jack Thomas and a sister Shelby Jean Walls. He is survived by his son, Lawson Anthony "Andy" & Wendy Thomas of Smyrna; daughters, Alta Renee & Michael Warrick of Murfreesboro and Betty Carol Francis of Murfreesboro; sisters, Mary & Jerry Elkins of Woodbury and Sally Brown of Woodbury; grandchildren, Lawson Roy Anthony Thomas, Nichole Elaine Thomas and Tasha Skylar Warrick and a special friend, Terri Ortkiese. Mr. Thomas was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War. Mr. Thomas was a retired truck driver. He was known to love cars. He liked to buy, sell and trade them. Working on rebuilding the engines to make them go fast, restoring them and even building some from scratch. Visitation will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 from 4-9 PM. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at 2 PM in the Smith Funeral Home chapel. Dennis Clark will officiate and interment will be in Blue Wing Cemetery.
