Mr. Alvin Ray Wade, 94, of Woodbury passed away on June 21, 2014. He was born on April 23, 1920. His parents were the late Robert Lee Wade and Mattie Braswell Wade. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ella Lee Young Wade, brothers, Hobert Wade, Homer Wade, Enoch Wade, Calvin Wade and Clyde Wade, sisters, Lillie Cantrell and Francis Wade. Mr. Wade is survived by his sister, Maggie Wimberley of Woodbury, many nieces, nephews and close friends. Mr. Wade was a retired employee of General Electric in Murfreesboro. He later worked as a barber and served as Cannon County Trustee from 1966 to 1970. Mr. Wade was a veteran of the U. S. Army during WWII. Many people remember him for his kind and giving character. He and his wife shared vegetables from their garden with neighbors and friends. Bee keeping was another of his hobbies. Tending his hives and sharing the honey gave him a lot of pleasure. He and Mrs. Ella also raised goats. The goats were as well cared for as their own children would have been. His cats were also special to him and provided a lot of love and companionship when he became homebound. Mr. Alvin was also known to enjoy a good chew of tobacco. He liked to have a good laugh and swap stories with friends. He was a long time member of the Woodbury Church of Christ. Visitation will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 from 4-8 PM. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at 12 PM in the Smith Funeral Home chapel.
