Mr. Bobby A. Potts, 69, of Auburntown passed away on February 20, 2015. He was born in Columbia, TN on January 6, 1946. His parents were the late Robert Easter Potts and Avalyn M. (Whitley) Potts. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Christopher Perry Potts and John David Potts. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Paula Potts of Auburntown; son and daughter-in-law, Michael & Susan J. Potts of Houston, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Gabriele & Ray Anderson of Watertown; six grandchildren, Kassi Nicole Brand Potts, Brittany Lynn Potts, John Michael Potts, Justin Kyle Anderson, Joshua David Anderson and Stephanie Danielle Anderson. Mr. Potts was born in Columbia and later moved to Murfreesboro with his family. He graduated from Central High School in Murfreesboro. He was working for Southern Bell when he was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War. During his service he was stationed in Germany. He met his wife, Paula, a native of Germany and fell in love. After serving in the Army they moved back to the states. Bobby went to work for Harrison Jewelers of New York in their Augusta, GA store. It has been said he could sell ice to an eskimo. He enjoyed bartering with people on all sorts of things. He was smart and could pick up on things quickly. When he left the jewelry store he went to work with his son at Comtech installing fiber optic lines. He enjoyed getting to travel with the company. He and Paula had made their home in Woodbury and Auburntown for many years. He was a semi-pro race car driver for a while. He raced while in Germany and on dirt tracks back in the states. Bobby had a busy life but he put his family first. His favorite times were taking camping and fishing trips with them. He loved to take his family to the mountains in Chimney Rock and Cherokee, NC. Visitation will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 from 4-8 pm. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at 1 pm in the Smith Funeral Home chapel. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Lynn Parson will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorial donations are requested to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Contact Smith Funeral Home for details.
