Mr. Carl Smith, 80, of Woodbury passed away on December 8, 2015. He was born on December 31, 1934 in Cannon County, TN. His parents were the late David Samuel Smith and Emma Classie Young Smith. He was also preceded in death by his wife Betty Ruth Clifton Smith and a sister, Jean Smith.He is survived by his son, David Smith of Woodbury; daughter, Melissa (Chuck) Hostetter of Readyville; sisters, Charlotte (Tommy) Boals of Smyrna and Martha Johnson of Nolensville; grandchildren, Amber (Joey) Oxley, Ashley (Bobby) Duncan and Samuel Hostetter; great grandchildren, Cole Oxley, Ella Oxley, Ava Duncan and Cade Duncan.Mr. Smith was the oldest of his siblings and grew up in the Geedville Community. He graduated Central High School in Woodbury. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force serving for 14 years during the height of the Cold War and the beginning of the Vietnam War. His time in the service afforded him some great experiences, he wouldn’t have had otherwise. He was stationed in Germany, Guam, Texas and Alabama. Mr. Smith earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Alabama. He taught at Holt High School in Alabama for a while. After moving back to Tennessee he worked for Middle Tennessee Natural Gas in Smithville. He later started his own company, Flat Rock Construction, installing pipe lines. He enjoyed raising beef cattle on his farm and being outdoors. He was an avid fisherman. He loved to go fishing anywhere from the ocean to the Stones River. During his fishing trips he went, deep sea, spear fishing and shark fishing. He loved to spend time with his family. He was a long time member of the New Hope Church of Christ. Visitation will be held at the New Hope Church of Christ on Saturday, December 12, 2015 from 11-1 pm. Funeral services will follow at 1 pm. David Dunn will officiate.  Interment will be in McMahan Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to the New Hope Church of Christ, Healing Hands, Tennessee Orphans Home or the Heritage Foundation. Contact Smith Funeral Home for details.
