Michael "Mike" Wayne Waddell

Mr. Michael Wayne “Mike” Waddell, 66, of Murfreesboro died on November 24, 2016. He was born in Murfreesboro on August 28, 1950. His parents were the late Herman Peterman Waddell, Sr. and Mary Louise Foster Waddell. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Gary Waddell. He is survived by his son, Gary Michael Waddell of Clarksville; daughter, Tina Waddell of Woodbury; brother, Herman (Darlene) Waddell, Jr. of Murfreesboro; and two grandchildren, Jerry Dalton Elms and Lauren McKenzie Elms. Mr. Waddell grew up in the Kittrell Community of Rutherford County. He and his brothers were very close growing up and enjoyed playing sports together. Mike was well known in the area as an All-Star pitcher. The trio made a great base for some very good baseball and basketball teams. He graduated from Kittrell High School in the Class of 1968. He continued to be interested in sports after high school. His ability gave him the opportunity to earn some money pitching for area teams. He decided to join the Army at the age of 28. He served for several years before moving back to Murfreesboro. He later went to work for Baxter Medical Supplies. He enjoyed working on classic cars and trucks, and going fishing. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church. Visitation will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Monday, November 28, 2016 from 11-1 pm. A graveside service will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens at 2 pm. Tim Gentry will officiate. He will receive military funeral honors. In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to Hospice of Murfreesboro. Contact Smith Funeral Home to donate.
