Mrs. Mary Frances “Peggy” Manus Milligan, 80, of Woodbury passed away on April 22, 2020 after an extended illness. She was born in Woodbury, TN on October 31, 1939. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Morgan Manus and Arine Mears Manus, husband, Billy Milligan, brothers, James Morgan “Buck” Manus and Billy Joe Manus, sisters, Miles “Do” Summers, Patsy Faye Manus, and Betty Rose Manus.
She is survived by a son, Glen “Eric” Portalatin, brothers, George (Linda) Manus, Sr. of Bradyville and Sammy Manus of Woodbury, sisters, Bertha Pace and Pauline Bowen both of Woodbury, and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
She grew up in a large family during the Great Depression. People during those days had to pitch in to help take care of their family. Mrs. Peggy helped with babysitting her younger siblings, cooking and whatever else she could do. She lived many years in Florida and would often make trips back to Tennessee to stay and visit family. Her son Eric was a special needs child. She did whatever she could to take care of him and make his life enjoyable. He had a medical dog, Shadow, who they both loved and was a constant companion. She worked as a security guard and in her spare time would volunteer at group homes to help other special needs children. They enjoyed listening to the Gaither Family gospel music and had seen them in concert. While in Florida she and Eric were members of the Church of Christ.
Due to the ongoing situation with COVID-19, the family will be holding a private visitation and funeral at Smith Funeral Home on Sunday, April 26, 2020. Tim Gentry will officiate. Interment will follow in Manus Cemetery. In support of the family, friends may call the funeral home to have their name added to the guest register.
